Specialist manufacturer of PC-based touchscreens, LCD touchscreen monitors and point-of-sale hardware to the retail, hospitality and leisure industries, J2 Retail Systems, has revealed that the first client of its new fingerprint recognition technology is making significant gains in terms of till security and staff management.

The Bar Neyland is a pub and restaurant in one of Wales’ most beautiful waterside locations. An enviable position and quality food make it a hit with the boating fraternity and discerning local diners. Technology has been approached with the same eye for quality and creativity. The Bar Neyland runs a state-of-the-art, touchscreen EPoS system from J2 and Haven Systems that includes fingerprint recognition.

The new biometric technology is an inbuilt function of the J2 560 touchscreen till and integrates with the mainstream point-of-sale processes as well as linking to The Bar Neyland’s CCTV network.

“The new system gives me much greater control. At any time and from anywhere, I get a live view of business as it’s being transacted and I know my till operations are completely secure,” explains The Bar Neyland’s owner, Graham Evans.

Accurate time & attendance reporting comes from staff logging on and off using fingerprint recognition. Staff find it faster and easier to log on this than by using pin numbers or key cards.

Each till transaction is logged via the biometric reader with a unique data tag and is superimposed on camera. This has removed all risk of identity theft or spurious transactions being put through the till. Staff morale has been boosted as everyone knows that they have ownership of their sales.

Hourly reporting on all transactions including voids and refunds leads to absolute clarity and security. Staff feel protected by the transparency and accountability of the new system and any temptation to commit a financial misdemeanour has been removed.

Graham Evans explains that the system is foolproof and has eliminated fraud: “I always know what’s being sold and by whom. For a bar or restaurant owner, it’s an unbeatable business tool.”
